When a consultant creates a note on a verse, they sometimes put a reference or many references to other book chapters and verses. Sometimes this appears as a blue link and clicking will jump straight there. It is a great feature as we do consistency checking.  But, the link does not always appear, sometimes the link is just a chapter and verse, not the book.  Clicking on it will jump to that reference in the book you are already in. Sometimes we have to look it up manually.

How does the link get created?  How can we ensure that it is always fully there?

Many Thanks

Mark

Paratext can automatically find and link references in flags and some other areas if you type them correctly.

If you have the standard 3-letter abbreviation, it can identify the book; e.g. MAT 1:3 or LUK 2:4-6 or ISA 3:2 or 1SA 3:2.

If you don't have the 3-letter abbreviation, in particular if you've written it in a non-standard way, then it ignores the book name and assumes the numbers are in the current book. So "Mathew 1:3" written in LUK would link to LUK 1:3 because it can't understand "Mathew".

How strict is this system? Does punctuation between chapters and/or verses need to conform to the Scripture Ref. settings in the project in question?

I think it's a pretty weak system. It only points to a single verse, not ranges or multiple chapters. And it requires colons between chapter and verse, regardless of what your particular project uses. So it's very strongly tied to the English abbreviation system.

MAT 2:3 -- works
Mat 2:3 -- doesn't work
MAT 2.3 -- doesn't work
MAT 2:3, 4:5 -- appears to work, but 4:5 points to the current book, not Matthew
MAT 2؛3 -- if your project uses arabic colons, it doesn't work
