I am a registered user of Paratext 8. I opened our Vernacular translation for NT within Paratext 8 and it said
that it is a registered project. I then ticked all the questions which it asked. It then started the migration to Paratext 8 when it finished. It said it successfully migrated my project. I clicked on my project I had Matthew opened and it said there is no book there (We have completed the entire NT and Genesis 1-16 and we are in our final year of checking before publication. I was obviously concerned. In the window which was open (an empty Matthew) it said I could import or create the books. I imported all the smf files (ie: all 27 NT books and Genesis 1-16 and Glossary). It imported and then it said I had to register. I pressed the register button and it said “You are already a member of a project named ******, and may not register a new one using that short name”.

In this imported version of my Project all my history of editing is present and working fine it goes back until 2010, all my Key terms are present and all my approved spelling is present. How can I get this project of mine working so it sends and receives.

I migrated my Back translation and everything got migrated to Paratext 8 and all books appear in Paratext 8. I did exactly the same thing which I did in my vernacular but something went wrong when it migrated it. All my books were gone.

Admin Edit: Removed registration codes

I’m the administrator of this project

If you are able (i.e. it’s not a sensitive project), could you give us the name of the project?

Also, did you happen to notice if, after the migration and before you re-imported your books), the files were there in the project folder, or were they completely missing?

They were completely missing in Paratext but present in my Paratext folder on my hard drive. I had anon024386 White look at it and he did a migration with my backup which was on the Paratext Server and he got the very same result. It said “successfully migrated” but no books were present in the Project. After sending back and forward emails he has passed it on to the “registration Specialist”

Okay, thanks. I’ll coordinate with anon024386 White, then.

Do you want me to stay on line? The time where I am is 10:30 pm. I’m willing to stay up if we can make progress with it tonight.

Nah, I’ve talked with SteveW. I think we know what’s going on. You can go to sleep.

We have identified the problem in Paratext that has caused the issue. We are going to fix the bug, but your project that you have migrated is probably messed up. The problem is that your project contains several other .SSF files inside the project folder. During migration we were assuming there would only ever be one so the migration just takes the first one that is found. In this case, it picked the wrong one. This means that all of your project settings are wrong (the cause of your missing books). This also means it probably has the wrong ID (the cause of not being able to correctly register).

You can wait for a fix to Paratext (should come out in the next couple days) or you can remove all the other .SSF files from the project in PT7 and then do a Send/Receive in PT7.

Either way, you will have to delete everything in PT8 and start the migration over (I hope you haven’t started work on it in 8.0, yet ). You can use Project > Delete Project to do this easily.

We deeply apologize that you have had this issue.

If you have started real work on the project in 8.0, please let us know and we can work with you to preserve all the changes while getting your project straightened out. However, it will be a bit of manual work, I think.

I think this issue might be related, so I will hijack this thread to mention another issue I noticed. I converted a BT project in Paratext 7.6, in order to rename it to a more standard naming convention. After renaming it, I associated the BT with the renamed Standard translation that I had migrated. (the standard translation which I had converted in order to rename, migrated and registered properly). When I tried to migrate the BT project, the beginning of the process recognized the correct translation to BT association, but somewhere in the middle of the migration process, the association reverted back to the original project, and the migration failed since the associated project didn’t exist in Paratext 8. This may be a totally separate issue, but since it is also related to the migration process and handling of files, I figured I would mention it.
Thanks
BEH

It seems to me that a better way to do all this would be as follows:

  1. Disable all Internet use in PT8 (under Tools > Options).
  2. Migrate the Standard translation to PT8.
  3. Convert the Standard translation in PT8.
  4. Migrate the BT to PT8.
  5. Convert the BT in PT8.
  6. Associate the converted BT with the converted Standard translation in PT8 (under Project > Project Properties and Settings).
  7. Turn on Internet use again in PT8 (under Tools > Options).
  8. Register the Standard translation in PT8 (by clicking the Register online… button under Project > Project Properties and Settings).
