Many of you will have heard of Scripture App Builder (and if you haven’t, take a look: it offers great opportunities for distribution of Scripture and other tex/picture/audio resources on Android, and will soon be available for iOS). I looked at the Play Store page for the developer they’ve newly registered, and there’s an app for a Translation for Translators that looks like a useful resource. Does anyone know how long this English version has been around? Could it be added to paratext.org so that we can get it as a resource for PT?

BTW, paratext.org seems rather static to me – over the years I’ve used PT, no new resources have been added for the languages our project might find useful. Does anyone have any suggestions for this?

You can get an English version based on Translation for Translators into Paratext. The Unlocked Dynamic Bible is available on the web at https://bible.unfoldingword.org/ or it can be downloaded as PDF or as USFM from https://unfoldingword.org/udb/.

The USFM zip file is not a Paratext backup so you cannot do a “restore project from file” to get it into Paratext. You can extract the zip file contents, then create a new project in Paratext then do Import Books and select the SFM files from the folder you extracted them to. These USFM files have one unusual marker in them, a \s5 marker every few lines in the text. I got rid of all these after I loaded the books into Paratext with a Paratext search replace.

Unfolding Word is a project of Distant Shores media who are partners with Wycliffe Associates. They also offer a public domain literal translation, the Unlocked Literal Bible. They also are preparing translation notes, questions and a Greek NT version.

The Translation for Translators is a project that Ellis Diebler has been working on for a number of years. There is a Paratext version, but as far as I know it has not been made available as a resource yet.

Version 8 of Paratext (due out this year) will change how the resources are handled. Resources will be available through the Digital Bible Library (DBL). This may mean that more resources will be available.

Translation for Translators is a work done by Ellis Deibler and is still a work in progress, although very near completion. All has been completed but Ellis and his wife Martha are going over it again looking for improvements. If you have Paratext, it can be used as a project which is updated by using s/r at the present time. All you need to do is write to me and give me your Paratext name and I can add you as an Observer to the project so that on the next s/r you can have it on your computer as a resource.
