Users Reinstall PT8 without Updating

Question

I was told (on here I think) that Paratext 8.0.100.1 is incompatible with newer versions (Paratext 8.0.100.4 and newer).

When users reinstall their PT8, they often do not install any updates and the automatic updates do not always work.

Would it be possible to have the posted offline installer updated to be compatible with the latest versions?

8.0.100.1 is the base of all the other patches. If we created a new base that included the newest patch, it would result in a 160MB+ download that everyone would have to get to be able to continue getting updates. Although this would, then, make the patches much smaller, we’ve been avoiding doing this because 160MB+ is a lot of data for some of our users to get in one try.

I’m pretty sure 8.0.100.1 isn’t incompatible with newer versions, so even if someone installed it they’d be able to do Send/Receive and otherwise interact with the rest of the team.

I suspect what you remember about 8.0.100.4 is actually with the updating system. There was some change that happened early on in the update process, where they switched where the system looked for updates. As a result if you update within PT, you’ll first download the update for 8.0.100.4 (which was the last update at the old address) and then after installing that you can download newer updates. It actually may require a second set of updates… I don’t remember.

To avoid that I usually download the newest update and install it directly right after installing the base version.
