(System: Win7x64 SP1, PT8 v56)

Several projects here use two BTs. The primary BT is the local majority language, and the secondary BT is English. If a Consultant is not available who knows the majority language for a given consultant session, the team will do the BT in English for the Chapters/Verses for that session.

The Missing Verses & Out Of Date Verses are flagged as issues for the BT which was not used for a set of Chapters/Verses. They could be postponed, but it appears you can only postpone issues for a single stage.

The following 2 options seems workable, but they turn off an important check for both BTs.

Option 1:
Turn on Missing Verses & Turn off Out Of Date Verses
“Deny” the Missing Verses issues for the chapters/verses unused in each BT. (Select, Ctrl-D)
BUT You will not be flagged for out of date verses for either BT

Option 2:
Turn off Missing Verses & Turn off Out Of Date Verses
BUT You will not be flagged for any BT verse errors for either BT.

Currently they are planning to use Option 2, because Option 1 is a lot of work.

Assuming I’m understanding correctly that these BTs are going to be incomplete by-design, I’m surprised that you haven’t had to overlap the BTs for the consultants (i.e. I would expect a consultant would want to compare text in other parts of the project). I would think both BTs would need to be complete, then.

But, if the consultants are able to work that way, I would suggest that you have one BT and have both languages in it, if possible, since there isn’t a good way to handle incomplete BTs in Paratext (as you’ve found).

Have you tried setting different scopes for the two different Back translation projects? On the Books tab in Project properties and Settings, one sets the books that a project is going to have. Back translation projects inherit the scope of the mother translation by default, but the scope can still be changed. It would be a worthwhile experiement to set the books tab for each Btrans project appropriately and see if you stop getting “false positives” from the Btrans project not in use for a particular book.
