Hi all,

First post - wish me luck!

I manage the Arabic language nonprof ‘International Sharif Bible Society’. We’re a registered member of Paratext, I’m personally registered as well. Upgraded to 8 and all.

First of the year we’ll be starting a Study Bible project for our Arabic version of the Bible. I downloaded Publishing Assistant (v6) and installed it. But when I click to open/run the program I get an error message that reads:

“The Paratext Registration for anon303076 does not allow using Publishing Assistant.”

Who do I need to talk to about adjusting my Registration to allow for Publishing Assistant?

Hi anon303076,

As you may know, Publishing Assistant is a separate application from Paratext. It integrates Paratext with Adobe InDeisgn and helps the typesetter with page layout tasks. It has a distribution policy, which is mostly centred on ensuring that the user has received adequate training or has local mentoring / support from an existing approved user. Rather than repeating the policy here, let me point to the Publishing Assistant website:

http://pubassist.paratext.org/pa-distribution-policy/

Prior to Paratext 8, Publishing Assistant had its own separate registration code. Now the PT8 registration includes a knowledge of whether a users is registered for Paratext, or Paratext and Publishing Assistant. Previous Publishing Assistant users were auto-registered for Publishing Assistant use with PT8.

A study Bible would typically be a more complex layout, and is definitely a more advanced use of Publishing Assistant. It is really important that a typesetter has a proper explanation of how the software works.

Let me know if you or one of your team was a previous user of PA. If not, we’ll need to explore whether there any training opportunities or other support options you can engage with.
