Hello, not sure if this is the place to ask for help, but here goes  I’m an SIL computer guy for Mexico Branch and I was unable to help Hilario Send/Receive the NGU project even after an hour or so of troubleshooting. I connected with Hilario through Bomgar, eliminated some PUPs with Malwarebytes and tried to do a Send/Receive with Paratext 8.0 several times and the process freezes after seeming to load the green bar 1/4 of the way

I then downloaded Paratext 9, tried to Send/Receive from there and it also froze. Paratext 8 was up to date, as was 9 since I had just downloaded it using the online installer. I didn’t notice other problems with Paratext but obviously the Send/Receive function is central to Hilario being able to work remotely.

Also when I say frozen I don’t mean Paratext freezes, just that the Send/Receive bar fills up 1/4 of the way and then nothing happens for many minutes until I exit out and try again. I recommended to Hilario that we try again with a USB when I get one to him but for right now the only option we have is to try via the internet server. The error that pops up when I click cancel is the normal error just saying the process wasn’t completed. Any ideas what could be stopping the ability to send?

My only guess was bad upload speeds, but my Bomgar remote service was working just fine. I did try to run a few speed tests but got wildly different results each time. Is there a minimum bandwidth needed to do a send/receive?
Thank you all

How long did you wait before you exited? An initial S/R of a large project can take a long time. I would let it sit there for at least 10-20 minutes and see if anything happens. Note that Paratext will timeout if something goes wrong during the S/R so it’s best to just wait.

I’m also experiencing the same problem. When I do Send/Receive on a flash drive or to the Internet it freezes up. I’ve done a reset by pressing SHIFT key while starting paratext but still doesn’t work.

Any Solutions?

Please use Help > Give feedback to send a report to us so we can look into your problem.

There are probably two possibilities:

  1. The third-party program we use for project history is taking a long time to add history to the project.
  2. Something is causing Paratext to hang
To tell which may be happening in your case, use Task Manager to see if Paratext or some command listed under Paratext is taking time. If it is, you will probably need to wait for the processing to complete - there have been rare circumstances where this can take a very long time - hard to put an upper limit on it.

If Paratext is not using time, use the ParatextForceShutdown command in the Paratext program folder to stop Paratext. This will create a file that contains details about what it is doing and may help us track down the problem.

You can hold down shift key while opening PT, and reset all settings.

Might be worthwhile check event viewer for frequency of system crashes, it would give insight.

Is he trying to receive changes or send changes? If there are no local change, you could try deleting local copy of project.
