My Paratext froze up completely and I’m unable to fix it. Already ran the install again with the repair option. Even follewed the advice of the “IT Crowd” and turned the computer off and on again. But nothing helped. Before I do a complete reinstall, I’d like to ask the community here if anybody has a solution to my problem. Here is a link to a short video of what is happening.
Hold Shift while starting Paratext (you need to first close). When it asks about reset say Yes, when it asks about report a problem say No. This will start Paratext with a blank window and you can open your files.
The Source language uses the SLT Form for opening.
There have been some problems with Paratext freezing and John Wickberg has prepared a fix that may fix your issue as well. If you aren’t getting pre-release patches, but would still like to try this, you can get the patch using this link: http://update.ubs-icap.org/ParatextTest/patch_8.0.100.63.msp
Thanks for your replies, everyone. I did get PT back but it was after a complete uninstall and reinstall. Unfortunately the problem that lead up to my freeze still remains and I think it has to do with the Greek text. I made another video to demonstrate. What seems strange is that this just came up recently. I had been working with both Greek texts for a long time and never had any problem before.
Did you update Paratext to 8.0.100.63? I was expecting that version to fix that freezing problem.
Yes I did update. After that the freezing stopped, but i still had the same issues with the source text which was what led up to the freezing before. See my second video I posted above. But thanks for your help. Having BW scroll along with my PT is great and helps me to avoid that issue.
The video does not work. Maybe it’s not public?
Thanks for that info. I think the link works now.
Yes, the video now works and was very helpful. The issue should have been fixed. Could you try install Paratext 8.0.100.63 to see if that fixes the issue?
Yes, there does seem to be a problem with the Byzantine text in the Source Language texts. You might get around this by opening the BYZ using File > Open Project/Resource. This seems to move past 2Co 4 without the same problem it does in the SLT.
Ok, good idea, thanks. But now I am having other problems. When doing a send/receive, PT freezes completly and the projects to don’t load in the s/r dialog box - it just stays blank. Perhaps I should just go back to an older version of PT?
Before you uninstall PT try a reset using Shift while starting.
I just did, and that seemed to fix it. Thanks. I’ve also been thinking what could have caused these recent issues. And there are only two things that come to mind.
