Several have asked for a dark mode of Paratext, where text appears white against a black background. This is on the list of things for the developers to add.

But I discovered recently that Paratext does do more dark mode than I realized.

If you set your Windows to high contrast black ( (left-Alt, left-Shift, PrtSc, or in settings, search for “high contrast”, pick “turn high contrast on” then choose the high contrast black theme), Paratext will switch to this. If it is open when you switch the settings, restart it, or reload your layout. Then you should see the white text on a black background.

Some things, like the toolbar for Biblical terms and for the Wordlist, are not what they should be, but projects and resources will show up in white text against a black background.

This works for both Paratext 9.1 and Paratext 8

I also hope for full support of dark mode, without having to change the configuration. Even so, I tried switching to High Contrast Black, and it worked after restarting Paratext as you indicate. It’s helpful!

Dark Mode is really valuable to me because of the large size of my screen- when Paratext is full‑screen, it’s too bright. I plan to use it all the time as soon as it’s available.

Thanks so much.
