Import interlinearized data from Adapt It to Interlinearizer in Paratext

Question

@pafederwitz and I have a colleague who needs to import his interlinearized data from Adapt It into Paratext. He has been using Adapt It for many years and has a lot of parsing data in it that he wouldn’t want to lose or have to re-enter all that data again. The reason for shifting over to Paratext at this point is to make a back translation and interlinearized text available to a consultant in another location via send/receive. He doesn’t want to have to recreate this data from scratch.

Is this possible? If so, is there a quick guide somewhere that could be used to walk him through the process?

If this question would be better asked of an Adapt It developer or in an Adapt It forum, I would welcome being pointed in the right direction.

Hi @anon766047 and @anon001624! It’s been a while since Thailand.

I wonder if you could use the Adapt It - Paratext Collaboration feature to help get you part of the way there: https://adapt-it.org/Help_for_Administrators.htm#Automatically.

I believe this would allow you to synchronize the adaptation in Adapt It to a project in Paratext, which could then be shared. Is the Source project already in Paratext?

If the Consultant just wants a Back Translation (from the Adaptation), then you’re basically there.

However, if they want the Interlinearizer too, you could use feed those Source and Adaptation projects in Paratext into the Interlinearizer. This would give the Interlinearizer a good head-start for figuring our parsing, etc. From there, depending on the complexity of the adaptation, it might just be a case of approving whole verses in the Interlinearizer (without exporting).

There may be a better way, but I wanted to throw that suggestion out there.

I wonder about the Collaboration tool as well. I don’t know where his Source text came from. But if it isn’t one of the standard ones in Paratext, he could probably export it from Adapt It and bring it in as a project as well.

The Collaboration tool seems to only work if you’re starting a fresh project. I did a dry run with a test Adapt It project (Jude in English, some “glossing” and “translation” done) and when I followed the steps, the empty Paratext projects for the free translation and translation draft overwrote what was in Adapt It.

There’s probably something that could be done on the back end. If there are no Adapt It/Paratext crossover-wizards that chime in here, I’ll reach out to Adapt It support directly.
