Recently I noticed that when I attempt to type in the search menu box I get a blank box that says “Searching…” instead of returning results. I have waited for some time but it never returns any results (menus or help). If I type in a known term like “Enhanced Resources” and press enter the help box pops up with the appropriate Enhanced Resources help materials but the menu search never returns any results.

The only way that I have been able to restore the search function is to uninstall and revert back to 9.0.100.1. As soon as I update I lose the search function. Anyone else encountering this issue?

@mnjames, I looked at your report. It looks like it’s failing to get information from a project notes window. Do you happen to have a project notes window in your layout that is hidden by default (i.e. in an unshown tab or in the autohide)? If so, could you try showing that window once and then try to search help again?

EDIT: If that fixes the issue, then the issue has likely already been fixed in 9.0.100.56.

I closed an Autohide notes pane which I never used, and that didn’t fix the problem. Then I clicked on each of 4 notes tabs that share a single pane, and refreshing them did fix the problem. So hopefully the new update will fix the underlying problem.

Thank you.

It is working fine for me in version 9.0.100.54. When I type something, i see ‘Searching’ for a second or 2 and then the expected options and help topics appear. If there are no relevant help topics then the box turns red.

I am also not having any trouble with the search box in [Phone Removed]As Stephen+Katt describes the box will turn red if I type a word that has no help available such as “laser”. Is your Windows up to date? There was a recent significant Windows update. Is that out there waiting to install?

Thanks for the quick responses! My laptop is up to date with current windows updates and I am letting Paratext update automatically to 9.0.100.54.

I just reset Paratext (holding shift while opening PT) and the search works. However, as soon as I open one of my saved layouts it stops. So there must be some issue with those layouts. I’ll delete my saved layouts and recreate them.

If you haven’t already deleted your “problem” layout, please use Help > Give feedback after loading that layout so we can take a look. It might be a more widespread problem that you happened to come across.

I have the same problem, with the search bar just saying “Searching” and never giving any results. I’ve had it for at least a month, maybe much longer. Similar to anon436952, if I reset PT the search works but if I load a layout it stops working.

I’ve submitted feedback through PT so you have more data to try to analyze the problem.

I’m using Windows 10 (18363.778).
