I am creating a Bible Module that uses section headings. However, in several places the first verse in a section is not a part of the planned verses. For instance, in Gen. 6, the module starts in v.5 but the section heading is before verse 1. I cannot figure out how to include the section heading without verse 1 there. Is there a way to do this automatically, or will I need to add section headings like this manually?

You would need to add this text manually if it is not included as part of the verses you are referencing.

You can use the replace code \rep to remove the verse text from verse 1 so you are left with just the heading text. You need to use \refnp to not bring in the paragraph marker, so you will need to provide the heading marker \s1 for the heading text:

\inc s
\s1
\refnp GEN 6:1
\rep When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them,=>
\ref GEN 6:5-6

Notice the \rep statement ends with =>, which means replace with nothing, or delete. This will give you:

\s1 Wickedness in the World
\p \v 5 The \nd Lord\nd* saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. \v 6 The \nd Lord\nd* regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I was checking to see if there was a way that I was missing. I think I’ll probably just add the \s lines manually like anon848905 mentioned. That seems simpler and is less to change if there are changes in the text and section headings. Plus, the exact wording of section headings - not being Scripture themselves - is less important.
