I’ve been very pleased with the new features in 7.6 but am trying to evaluate switching to Linux for Paratext etc (I do everything in a virtual machine, but linux VMs seem to take up fewer resources than Windows ones). The (Wasta) Package manager only seems to contain Paratext 7.5 and 7.4.

Yes, there is. To install it, you first have to first enable the SIL “experimental” repository. In a terminal:

sudo apt-add-repository "deb http://packages.sil.org/ubuntu/ $(lsb_release -sc)-experimental main"
sudo apt-get update

(Note the ‘apt-add-repository’ line is long and may appear as 2 lines, but copy-paste it as one line.) After this you should see Paratext 7.6 available, and once installed, you should get updates along with your other software updates.

Let me know if you would like more details.

Is Paratext 7.6 available for Wasta Linux 16.04? I don’t see it even after adding the SIL experimental repository.

PT 7.6 is not available for 16.04.
Since 7.6 is never going to be non beta I didn’t publish a package.

There is now a PT 7.6 BETA package for for 16.04 uploaded to PSO experimental.

Please be aware that there are no plans to release 7.6. i.e. the plan is to never move it to PSO (stable)

Thank you, hindlemail!

Many thanks. That’s very helpful. Separately I am going to post a question about my perception that PT is noticably slower on Linux than Windows. I’m wondering if that’s just me and my virtual machine.
