A user is reporting this error with Paratext 8 on Windows 8
We have tried holding shift when starting Paratext, and we have also tried uninstalling\reinstalling Paratext.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

After doing what anon848905 and also Prabhujes suggested we get a different error

We will try John+Wickberg’s suggestion and see what happens

Thank you

We just sent out a patch this week on Paratext 8 that may help - currently this is a pre-release patch and we’ll probably send it to all users next week if there are no problems.

If you want to try it now, here’s a direct link:

http://update.ubs-icap.org/ParatextTest/patch_8.0.100.84.msp

Your error message may have been something different this time - there is a server used for Writing Systems and the error is related to it. The patch may still help.

The error that anon848905 mentioned is a little different from this one - though the same folder is involved.

If you look at this folder:
C:\ProgramData\SIL\WritingSystemRepository\3

There are probably some .BAK or .BAD files that the user doesn’t have permission to delete. Try sorting the files by Type and deleting all files that don’t end in .ldml

I faced this problem, when i’m using windows 8. I followed these steps

  1. Pause the antivirus
  2. Reinstall Paratext 8 packages
  3. Open the Paratext 8
  4. Restart the paused antivirus
