We came across a strange problem. According to the Project History a member of the Davvi-project had made docens of changes in the NT, even though according to the User Permissions he have rights only on the OT. How can that be?

The very strange thing is that when I now look at the View History of Verse(s) on a verse where the Project History indicates changes by him, they are not there! He is not listed as someone that has made changes to the text of the verse in question.

SO, the Project History (from the Project menu) and the View History for Verse(s) (right click on the text), give contradictory information.

How can that happen, and which one is correct (if any)?

I’ll start off with a disclaimer: even after we looked at the data for the project, we can’t say for certain what happened. Paratext is pretty strict about allowing the wrong user to change a file so the likely situation is that the files were changed outside of Paratext. However, even with that, it wouldn’t explain why the changes were not showing up in Verse History.

We did some digging and all of the changes by Tuomas (I’m assuming the person in question) all seem to be duplicates of changes that other people have made. The changes in GAL are identical to changes made by Helena on Feb. 2, 2016. The changes in 2CO are identical to changes made by Helge on Feb. 4, 2016. Our only guess of how this could happen is that Tuomas somehow got copies of the files and replaced them on his/her machine without going through a Send/Receive.

This also explains why the changes are not showing up in Verse History as we filter out versions that are textually identical to the previous version (i.e. in the history flow, the text did not actually change).

Thanks for taking the effort.

I can tell you, that Tuomas (yes you made the right guess) is far away from anyone else (about 400 km from Helena, and about 600 km from Helge) AND he is not technically competent enough to do such a thing, or at least I would doubt that very much. Helge would be able to send him some files, but taking into account the present situation I would be VERY surprised if he would do such a thing. Helena would not be able to send Tuomas any PT files. Before we started to use the S/R, Helena printed her text and send the print to the coordinator by post. She does not know (this is my impression being her PT support person) where the files are in her computer let alone how they are actually called. But I will see Tuomas on Monday and ask him about this.
