Hi,
We have a cluster with 9 languages - with back translations that is 18 paratext projects. Across those 18 projects with consultants, typesetters, etc. there are currently 84 users.

Any suggestions on how to report those users and thier roles by project? (At this level, we don’t need to see permissions, just user and roll.)

Thanks,
stevepence

stevepence,

How is life in Mbeya these days?

The only way I know to get this list is to go to the computers of administrator of each Paratext project. Start Paratext. In the Project menu, click Users, Roles and Permission.

Hi kent_schroeder,

We love it here. Especially now that it started raining. The hills are green and the air is clear. How are you?

Yea, I did a report manually for my boss, exactly the way you describe. I entered all the names and roles one by one into excel. It took one entire day, made me cross eyed, and is quite error-prone. Fortunately I am already an admin on those projects. If I had had to track down each administrator and sit at their computer, it would have taken three days. After I fix all the role changes my boss is working on, she will quite reasonably ask for a new report.

I was looking for a way to generate this information – which I don’t doubt is already in some text files in My Paratext Projects. For larger clusters, it seems to me to be a reasonable request.

Thanks,

stevepence

Paratext 8.0 will have more features for tracking projects in the Project Progress Tracking area. It is still being discussed what kinds of reports it will be able to generate. Not sure what specifically will be there for cluster projects but one idea was that administrators off in the capital or somewhere distant will be able to receive information through Paratext’s Send/receive function. If you would like to see specific features, I would suggest that you suggest it using the “Make a Suggestion…” option on the Help menus

For whatever it’s worth, there should not be a need to be an administrator to see this information. You should only need any role on the project. You only need to be an administrator to change the information.

Also, the information is stored in the ProjectUsers.xml file. You should be able to come up with some way to parse it to get the information either via a simple program or via regex or maybe even a simple find. Not ideal, but it might save you some time in the long run.
