Hi,
I was recently added to a project as an observer, but when I look at the project Users Roles and permissions page, I am not listed there.
I also find that when I try to do some printing with PubAssist from that project, it shows up in the list of available projects, but if I try to do something from that project, it tells me I have no role.
I tried another project that I am just an observer on, and it allows me to select the project and create a job name.
The only difference I can see is that on the one project, my name is in the list of users, on the other though the project opens in Paratext fine, I am not on the list of users. I verified this on two different computers. Is this the new way that the Observer role is handled, and do I now need to have a different role?
Thanks

It is key that you are not showing up in the Paratext Registry as an Observer for that project. That means that the team has failed to add you properly. This may be because you already have a project of the same name on your computer. You should go to your Paratext Project Properties menu for that project and try to access the registry from that menu. What happens then will tell you how to act:

  1. It will try to register the project as a new project – don’t allow it to do so. Instead, delete (after backing up if necessary) the current project from your computer and do send/receive

  2. It will connect to the server but to a different project then the one the team is using – You can verify this because there will be a different registration. Delete your project (after backing up if necessary) and choose the option to also remove from server and do send/receive.

  3. It will connect to the server and to the identical project – I don’t see that happening but you can still try deleting (after backing up) and doing send/receive. If, after the team adds you (see below), you still fail to connect to the correct project with your proper status, report a problem with Paratext Help.

After you follow one of the three options above, have the team attempt to add you to the project again and do send/receive all round.

Hi,
Thanks for writing.
Interestingly, on the registry, it shows me as a member of that project as an observer.
I also have no other project with that same name.
On the computer, it downloads the project, and everything looks normal in Paratext, until I go to the Users Roles and Permissions page. There, I am not listed as one of the users.
I recall a similar issue in the past, where there seemed to be a disconnect between the license file downloaded, etc. But I don’t recall what the solution was off hand.
When I open PubAssist and try to do something with that project, it tells me I have no role, and that I should ask to be added as a consultant.
That, along with the fact that the same thing happened on two computers, is what made me wonder if the way Paratext handles the Observer role has changed.
Thanks

You do need to be a consultant to typesetting. That isn’t a change with paratext but with PubAssist. The project also needs to be in the Publisher Tier in the paratext registry in order for it to be seen by PubAssist.

If the registry does have you listed as an observer, have you deleted the project from your computer and done send receive to make sure you are properly connected with it? Again, of course, back it up first. Also verify in tools/registration that your user
name exactly matches the user listed on the project in the registry.
