I have successfully migrated my project to PT8. Now I’m trying to update my colleague’s machine with S/R via USB (internet is too slow here…). I do S/R on my machine and it tells me “Changes have been sent” for the two projects I’m trying to move. However, there is no Shared Paratext Projects folder on the flash drive. What would cause this? How can I fix it? I have opened and closed Paratext (very slow to start, by the way–is that normal?), and rebooted my machine.

Dear Paul, are you able to see other contents of your flash drive? There are a couple of things I could try if not.

First, make sure your target computer recognizes your flash and free of viruses. Usually a scan of the receptor computer will help.

Secondly, still on the target computer, I would check the “Folder Options” making sure it is set to display “hidden file and folders”. To do this, do the following:

  1. Open “File Explorer”
  2. Open "Folder Options
  3. In the “Folder Options” window make sure you have “Show hidden Files and Folders” checked and un-check the "Hide protected Operating system file (Recommended)…Choose “Yes” when it prompts you with another message.

Finally, click Apply and Ok.

This should reveal all files and folders on the flash drive.

anon095238,

Yes, I am able to see other contents on my flash drive–even a ‘hidden’ folder called System Volume Information. I can read files from and write files to the flash drive. It was used frequently to do S/R with PT7, but as soon as I got to PT8 it stopped working.

Make sure you don’t have some other memory card or drive in your system. Several times I’ve had Paratext send/receive to the wrong memory stick (or to my SD card). This is probably not your problem, but the fact there is no shared PT folder on the flash drive reminded me of my problem, where PT sent it somewhere else.

I do have another flash drive in my computer (an SD card in drive E:). S/R works fine to it, however, when I select the other flash drive (drive F:), the S/R operation completes without error, but NOTHING is written to the drive. It happens so quickly, though, that I seriously doubt that it’s even trying to write…

Paul, Could you try do a S/R to the problem drive without any other flash drive/SD card inserted and see if that works?
