Very recently, the right-click ‘Find in Dictionary’ command has appeared greyed out. When I go Project > Project Properties and Settings > Associations, the ‘Choose…’ box for ‘Associated Lexical Project’ is also greyed out. The lexical project I want associated is listed, however. Is there any chance this is related to updating FLEx to v. 9.0 (which I did recently)? Has anyone else noticed this issue? I’m using PT 7.5.100.87.

Paratext 7.5 doesn’t look for the FieldWorks 9 installation.

I experimented and it looks like you can create the registry entry that is needed and then get Paratext 7.5 to find FieldWorks.

Assuming you used the standard locations, you would need to run regedit and then create this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\SIL\FieldWorks\8

Then add a RootCodeDir string value set to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SIL\FieldWorks 9\

I did my testing using the 32-bit version of FieldWorks 9 - if you used the 64-bit version, remove the " (x86)" value after “Program Files” for the RootCodeDir value. I’m not sure if Paratext 7 will work with the 64-bit version.

Is it worth mentioning that the clock is ticking on Paratext 7? All active projects need to migrate to Paratext 8 by the end of the year.

Believe us, we hear that clock ticking loud and clear! :-0 Just not sure we’re going to make the deadline–we work with a translator on an island with infrequent communication and transportation…

John+Wickberg’s registry hack came close, but ultimately failed… Someone on the FieldWorks team wrote and said, “Paratext 7 uses the old way writing systems work, so I don’t think Paratext 7 and FieldWorks 9 will ever work together.” I’ll mark this thread ‘don’t bother’ so no one wastes any more time on it.
