Hi All,

I’ve done a number of Convert Projects as I migrate people to Paratext 8 (mostly changing the short name to include the Ethnologue/Language code). In doing this, I have found that the Convert Project feature is MUCH faster in Paratext 8 (I would say almost 2-3 times as fast). It also handles some errors that Paratext 7 could not.

This involves migrating the project from Paratext 7 to Paratext 8, but not registering it until after the Convert Project step. Here are the steps I take in Paratext 8:

-Disable Internet in Paratext

-Migrate Project(s)

-Convert Project(s)

-Modify Project Properties and Settings (i.e., associating a Back Translation with the newly “converted” translation project)

-Enable Internet in Paratext

-Go to Project Properties and Settings for each newly converted Translation Project (the Back Translation and Auxiliary projects usually don’t need this step)

-Register each newly converted Translation Project

-Delete the old Project(s)
