We have languages using Devanagari script. In Devanagari final punctuation is । (danda marker). But Paratext 8 is not allowing me to ADD the final punctuation in Number Settings > Final Punctuation. If i add the error says “the final punctuation can only contains punctuation characters”. How can I add custom punctuation to Paratext?

thanks

Thanks anon848905 and marvinson for valuable reply. Yes, in my text the Devanagiri Danda and Devanagiri double danda (used in earlier text for denoting paragraph ending) was used as Alphabetic Characters. This caused the problem. Thank you for the solution

NB: I apologize for the late reply. After I posted the question, today only could see the web portal. it might be good to get an email if our questions are answered by some one

binoy - you should be getting emails if you set your preferences for that. When you are on the Support site go to your name (picture) in the upper right and then click the settings sprocket. This will allow you to set notifications.

binoy, what Unicode character are you adding? When I add U+0964 (Devanagari Danda) to the Numbers settings I get no errors.

However, if I have added U+0964 to the Language Settings as an Alphabetic Character then I cannot also say that it is punctuation in the number settings.

Yes, anon848905’s second post is the likely answer. I have seen Devanagari language definitions that include danda, other punctuation, and even digits in the list of Alphabetic Characters. Those things should not be included in the alphabetic characters list, it should include only actual word-forming characters.
