While using printdraft, whenever I try to print combined books it stops and says it cannot print the last book???

Does it matter what range of books you’re choosing? If you just have two, does it still fail? Does it happen with any ending book, or just with a particular one?

A more precise quote of what the error it gives would help. Also, if it’s happening in all cases, could you hold Ctrl down while you do PrintDraft. Then, after it’s finished (or errored out), go the the My Paratext Project/LANG/PrintDraft folder (where LANG is your project code, usually 3 characters) and find the ***.log file that was created. This will tell what the problem is and if you can’t read the information, you could attach it or copy and paste it here.

It’s hard to find a pattern:

I can print (combining books) Matthew through Acts, but not Matthew through
Romans.
I can print 1 Corinthians through Revelation, but not Matthew through
Revelation, and not Romans through Revelation. ?

Here’s the error log

Actually, re-reading your post my first test would be to print Romans and see if that will print on its own.

Are you certain that it’s the combining factor that’s causing the error, and not one particular book? Are you sure that each book will print correctly on its own?

I’m not seeing the error log. Maybe the support webpage can’t handle attachments?

Romans prints on its own. John prints on its own. John and Acts prints ok. Acts and Romans prints ok,
John though Romans will not print. When I do four or five of any books, I get this similar type of error message:

the error message is…

Print Draft failed for JHN-ROM
There was a problem encountered while creating a PDF file for Romans.
You can’t use ‘\end’ in internal vertical mode.
\end …vfill \superelect \the @ndhooks \s@ve@nd
I.93 \end

This one may stump me, so if anyone wants to jump in please feel free to. :slight_smile:

My guess is that the something at the very end of the printjob is not closing properly before the \end marker. The first guess I would have is that you have marker errors somewhere, but if you can print the books on their own that doesn’t seem to be the problem.

In your PrintDraft folder, open the file printdraft-XXX-MAT-ACT.tex (substituting XXX, MAT and ACT accordingly). The last line should be line 93 and should just say \end.
What is just before that line? I would expect:
\catcode\%=12 \ptxfile{NAME OF A FILE} \ptxfile{NAME OF A FILE} \catcode%=14

Here’s the last few lines:

%%%%% Load Paratext USFM %%%%%
\XeTeXdefaultencoding “utf-8”
\catcode`%=12
\ptxfile{C:/My Paratext 8 Projects/CSB/PrintDraft/41MATCSB-draft.SFM}
\ptxfile{C:/My Paratext 8 Projects/CSB/PrintDraft/42MRKCSB-draft.SFM}
\ptxfile{C:/My Paratext 8 Projects/CSB/PrintDraft/43LUKCSB-draft.SFM}
\ptxfile{C:/My Paratext 8 Projects/CSB/PrintDraft/44JHNCSB-draft.SFM}
\ptxfile{C:/My Paratext 8 Projects/CSB/PrintDraft/45ACTCSB-draft.SFM}
\ptxfile{C:/My Paratext 8 Projects/CSB/PrintDraft/46ROMCSB-draft.SFM}

\catcode`%=14

\end

Sorry, I can’t help beyond this.

You might try asking on [Email Removed].org, since this is at its heart a TeX question and not a Paratext question.

Can anyone help me with this?

anon261997,

There is obviously something strange going on based on what you can (and
can’t) create. One suggestion is that you install the Pathway program (
https://software.sil.org/pathway/download/) and try this as a method of
getting a PDF output of the NT. Pathway allows you to export your file to
PDF, OpenOffice, and other formats.

Thanks anon848905! I’ll try that.

The .log file in the PrintDraft folder will generally tell you what went
wrong. You might find an “Undefined control sequence” or something in
there.

[Questions]

A few things come to mind.

· Have you reported the problem using Paratext/Help/Report Problem?
They are usually quite responsive.

· I don’t remember seeing whether all the basic checks ran clean.

· Check all your inventories and look for something strange or
unique that has been accidentally validated, particularly character and
marker inventories.

· Check your Project Properties to see whether you are using
usfm.sty. Have you modified any other control files?

· Are you in Paratext 7.6? If so, holding Shift as you open
Tools/Basic Checking gives you a “schema” check. While it isn’t usually
necessary for translation purposes, it tends to choke if everything isn’t
absolutely perfect. It is hard to read, but it might help pin down an odd
error. If it doesn’t choke, that is a good thing for the quality of your
text.

· Have any of your other users had the same problem? It might be a
computer (like RAM) problem that is choking Paratext.

I went down the CHECKING tab, doing inventory, fixing every glitch I could find, and now it prints combined books with no problem.

That’s great - it also points out the importance running the checks before
doing other “work” with Paratext.
