I am using scripture app builder from SIL. The recent release of SAB allows for scripture bundles (Bibles in other languages like the the national language) to be added to the app so that the venacular can be seen along side the another language. I did contacted DBL for the Scripture bundle that I need but they replied suggesting that I contact Paratext to see if scripture bundles were already available to me as a Paratext user. So my question is, are they? I would like to add the Indonesian TB to the app.

Hi anon010520.

Can you answer the following questions for me please?

What is the exact name of the DBL or Paratext project that you are trying to create a scripture app for? If it’s in DBL can you provide a link to that? Who is the rightsholder/manager for that project? Are you a Paratext user assigned to that Paratext project? Have you contacted SAB support with your request?

Thank you,

Hi anon020041,
Thanks for getting back to me. I have not contacted SAB support yet. On their documentation web site they say “The DBL serves as a repository of translated Scripture. These texts can be used with permission from DBL to create apps in Scripture App Builder.” I then tried to access DBL and someone with DBL wrote "The DBL is for organizations, not individuals. I assume you are working with Paratext, so I would suggest you work through your Paratext contact first to see if what you need is already there and maybe they just need to make them available to you via Paratext."
Anyway, that is what eventually lead to this post. I am a missionary with NTM/Ethnos360, working in the Moi/Dao tribe in Papua, Indonesia. I am the Paratext user in charge of that project. It is still in the process of being translated but the parts I’ve completed, I have been able to put it into the Scripture App. There is a need though, to have the Indonesian Bible in the app so that they can be looked at side by side. And I’m wondering how to get that scripture bundle so that I can insert it into the App.
Thank you for any help you can give me with this.

Dear anon010520,

DBL includes two different versions of the TB Indonesian. Indonesian BS has granted access to them for every PT 8 project that is operated by any organization belonging to the Forum of Bible Agencies International. Since Ethnos360 is not a member nor an associate for the Forum, things get bit complicated.

Permissions to access the DBL resources are besed on official agreements between organizations. Ethnos306 is not an organization that operates in conjunction with the DBL (as far as I can see). In the long run, the learership of your organization might seriously consider starting to cooperate with the DBL, but this does not solve your current problem.

I do not see any other way to proceed than that you contact the Indonesian Bible Society, the copyright holder of the TB Indonesian versio, for help.

Ethnos360 is actually New Tribes Mission, which is an associate member of FOBAI.
The name hasn’t been updated in most places yet, which can lead to confusion if the new name is used.

Thank you anon982572 for your response. Ethnos360 is actually the new name for New Tribes Mission which is a member of FOBAI. I’m assuming that someone from our organization needs to contact them and make the name change official. I will contact them and see if we can get this done.

Just another thought. Through Paratext I was able to download the Indonesian Bibles from DBL. I see the file on my hard drive but it’s not the right format for SAB. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your patience and help.

Dear Stpehen,

My expertice does not cover the technicalities of the SAB. Maybe someone else can assist you on this?

But, if and when you have the system , please, do remember that the access to the Indonesian TB does not automatically grant you the right to share it with others. For that purpose you need to have the permission from the Indonesian BS.

Thank you anon982572 - sure appreciate you taking the time to respond and advise.

Paratext doesn’t include or have direct access to any DBL bundles and I don’t think having Paratext automatically grants you access to those bundles. I’m not sure who you were in contact with, but I think you were misled. I’ve contacted @anon020041 (main DBL developer) for clarification.
