Glossary: structure (chapters?, paragraphs?); pictures (location and size?)

Question

I have read through "Glossary Best Practices" (https://support.bible/3952/glossary-best-practices?show=3952#q3952). The information there seems old (recommended video links are broken, etc.)...

I'd love some help organising our glossary and adding pictures.

In the thread cited above, there is the suggestion to use \c 'chapters' for individual letters of the alphabet. I did this, but they all got stripped out when I did a S/R... Obviously, that's not "best practise"! I have used \s1 headers for each letter, but is there a better way to go?

As for pictures, I'm having very little success. For context, I'm using PTXprint for PDF output. I have lines like: \fig Second temple; aerial view|LB00250C.TIF|col|After GLO entry for /vae tabu/|Louise Bass|Na vae tabu|1:0\fig*. This shows up where expected, right after the GLO text it applies to, but as a full page picture, despite selecting Width: Single column. I have similar lines for various animals, listed individually with \li1 under an entry for \p \k mamanu\ 'there are a number of animals in the Bible that we don't have in our land [a Pacific island]'. Unfortunately, these pictures don't show up where they are placed in the GLO text, but all together in a clump at the end of the entry. Not all of them appear, as they trail off at the end of the page...

I don't think I can itemise all the issues I'm facing, but if it's possible to look at what I've tried to explain here and identify something glaringly 'off', I'd sure appreciate it! Thanks, Paul

I read your message and thought I could give some answers. Then I clicked the link... and realized it was a question originally asked by me!

As Phil said in that other reply, using chapter numbers in the glossary breaks the Biblical Term linking tool. So if you use that, you most definitely can't use multiple chapters.

If your primary need is simply organization, using \s1 markers as you mentioned may be the best choice. But as I wrote in that other thread, our project was basically unusable because the glossary made the program so slow. If that's your experience, then you may have to use \c markers.
I can't remember if this is the circumstance, but I do remember one occasion when I had to turn off PT, open a file in a text editor, and add chapters manually. Then when I reopened PT it worked correctly. So maybe that's the way to get them to work without PT stripping them out. Once they're in place, I've never had problems with them.

I haven't used pictures in PTXprint enough to be able to comment on that. My guess is that using chapters will neither fix nor harm your issues with PTXprint.
