Our team works at a translation center where we often have 20+ users doing send/receive to a laptop dedicated to running Chorus Hub. The last two times I visited, I set up Chorus Hub on my own laptop because my machine was so much faster than our dedicated Chorus Hub laptop was. I would like to get a faster laptop to replace our old slow Chorus Hub laptop. What laptop specs are the most important for this purpose?

I don't see any answers yet. I wonder which is the most important: disk speed, memory speed, or memory size? What would you recommend for minimum specs for a laptop in this role?

Hola John.

I'm sorry you can't find definitive information yet. We don't have data about the minimum requirements of Chorus Hub on the official page, but this is a service that demands very few resources. To give you an idea, on my computer the CrashPlan service requires about 150 MB of RAM, while Chorus Hub only uses 10.5 MB (and goes up only 1 MB when I do an S/R). This means that any current computer with an Intel Core i# processor and 8GB of RAM will be more than enough to run it without problems, plus a stable network connection. If you can connect the modem to the computer via cables instead of WiFi it will be better.

If a desktop PC with a UPS costs less than a laptop this could be a good option, in case you don't need to constantly move the computer.

Thinking about the comparison you made between the computer they currently have and your laptop, it is logical to find a difference in case the current laptop has, for example, an Intel Celeron processor or 1 GB RAM.

If you are using Chorus Hub together with other programs such as Paratext, Logos or Office, I recommend you check the specific minimum requirements for each of them to make sure that your computer meets all the needs.

Saludos,
José Rosas.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on this.

We have run Chorus Hub on a very minimal laptop, so it's not minimum specs I'm concerned with.

When I have used my own laptop, with a much faster processor, a larger and faster SSD, and more RAM, there is a big difference in how fast Chorus Hub processes a send/receive compared to a laptop with lower specs on all three components. Speed is critical for us when we have 20+ users all using one Chorus Hub. So my question is, which of these components of the laptop contribute most to Chorus Hub performance?

We use a laptop because power consumption is a concern and our Chorus Hub needs to run 24x7 during a translation workshop. The whole team runs on solar in a remote location.
You can use Paratext's minimum requirements as a basis: https://paratext.org/download/system-requirements-for-paratext/
And of course, considering an SSD will help.
