I am trying to insert a set of figure expressions (\fig … \fig*) into a project using the custom tool “Insert crossreferences or footnotes”. As far as I can see, the list is formatted correctly:
\ref MAT 2:2
\fig Caption|alt=“Description” src=“filename.tif” size=“col” ref=“2:1-2”\fig*
etc.
The file is saved as checktext.txt in the project folder. However, when I try to run the Insert tool, it gives an error message:

I wondered if something was wrong in the checktext.txt file, so I placed one figure ref. in the project manually and tried to run “Extract expression” to create a correctly formatted checktext.txt file. However, I got the same error message.
Has this “Unsupported” tool become obsolete? And if so, is there a better way to bulk insert figures into the project?

For completeness on this issue - after the user did a Paratext “reset” the issue with using the custom tool was resolved. You can learn about Paratext “reset” at:

Paulus+Kieviet - when I placed the booknames.txt and checktext.txt files in the project folder then it worked to insert the data.

There is a Booknames.xml file in the project folder (though this process should not need it - there are no book names to be converted).
Should checktext.txt have any special line at the start? As it is now, it just starts with the first reference. (But the fact that I wasnꞌt able to extract either suggests that the problem is somewhere else.)
I could submit an error report so someone can look at this specific project.

Booknames.xml is the file used by Paratext to handle the names in the scripture reference settings. This is different from a booknames.txt file which is used by the insert tool to change names of books. NOTE: it is not necessary to have the booknames.txt file present. This is only used to change names. You can see the .rtf documentation on the insert tool in the cms directory.

NOTE for those who don’t see this tool in Paratext, but can see the InsertCrossReferencesOrNotes.cms file in the cms directory, it is started by default with the \check DELETED statement which hides the tool. You can place a # before the \check DELETED to make the tool active.

Of course this will insert the figure right after the verse number, so it will need to be moved to a better location - at the end of a paragraph.
