HBKFR resource missing?

When I download/install resources (PT9.0 latest), uncheck the box so I am seeing all resources, then type “HBK” in the filter field I get:

What happened to the French handbook, HBKFR?

An update to HBKFR is now available for download. Thank you to @AWR and team.

But there is something funny going on. After I downloaded the HBKFR resource, and verified that this it was good (more books, etc.), I went to the _Resources folder to copy the file to our server, but the date was still 2019. After various investigations, it appears that the HBKFRA.p8z file was the old version, which Paratext (9.1.104.87) couldn’t open, but when I downloaded the new HBKFR resource, Paratext couldn’t put it in the _Resources folder (because a file with the same name was already there), so it put it somewhere else. With Paratext closed, I moved the old .p8z file elsewhere, so I thought I would uninstall the new HBKFR and reinstall it, to get the file into the _Resources folder (so I can copy it). But if I uninstall HBKFR (trash can on the install dialog), then restart Paratext, the HBKFR resource is back again! (But not in the _Resources folder…) Where is it?

I think I finally figured out that once I remove the old HBKFR file from the _Resources folder, if I uninstall HBKFR (from wherever it was stored), then immediately install it again, then the new .p8z file shows up in the _Resources folder, which allows me to copy it to the server.

So that rigamarole seems to show up some shortcomings, if not bugs. Why does Paratext not show that download to HBKFR as an update, rather than an installation, since there is already a HBKFR.p8z file in the _Resources folder? And where does it put resources if there is already a file of the same name, and shouldn’t it offer to overwrite it?

I guess for the average user, if the HBKFR resource goes off to some other storage location, it’s not the end of the world, but I wonder how it will handle eventual updates to this resource. Will that cause problems in the future?

Thank you for reporting this, jeffh, and sorry for any hassle you’ve experienced. In the announcement on MAP, we did recommend that anyone having installation problems should uninstall the old project first. There may be various reasons for this issue, but one is perhaps the very great extent to which the revision is different both in content and customisation. We do have colleagues looking into this. Please let us know if you have further problems.

Your whole description of the problem suggests that the new version of the resource has a new ID. This causes Paratext to go into a mode where there are two projects that have the same name, but different IDs. It puts the new resource into a folder that arranges the resource by-ID instead of by-name. This might have been caused by the resource holder uploading it to DBL as a new resource instead of a new revision to an existing resource.

This was mistakenly removed some months ago by someone on the DBL staff (sorry!). A major update will appear in the coming weeks.

Would it be possible to release the version that was accidentally deleted, and then update it when the update becomes available?

I think the main problem is for those that has installed the previous version since this is a new resource, it is not an update of the previous one but using the same resource abbreviation we have created another project. The abbreviation for this resource is HBKFRA and local Abreviation is MDT.

Knowing what I know now, I would say there are two options:

1. Just install it (there isn’t an uninstall option for the old HBKFR, on the computers I looked at), as it seems to work, even though the file goes to a non-standard location.

2. Make sure that HBKFR is not open as a resource in your Paratext, close Paratext, move the HBKFR.p8z file from _Resources to somewhere else, restart Paratext, THEN install the new HBKFR. This seems to put it in the standard location.

I thought I had resolved the problems, but when I opened Paratext this morning it gave me another error message (I didn’t record it - it was in French - something about the HBKFRA resource being corrupted, I think). I went to Download, and it said HBKFRA had an update, so I updated it, but still had the same error on startup (although I believe I could still access the resource).

Anyway, I deleted the resource HBKFRA, restarted Paratext, then Downloaded HBKFRA again, and now I think (again!) that I have resolved all of the problems related to this resource. YMMV!
