I still use PT7 for some purposes and need to install it on a new machine, but I can’t find source language tools for PT7.

We no longer support PT7. Could you tell us why you still need it?

Yes. I replaced the Hebrew Bible in PT7 by one I
generated from the etcbc database so that it includes phrase and
clause-level parsing as interlinear lines. See the attached. I
don’t actually need any of the resources in SLT but I do need the
framework so that I can replace the Hebrew Bible.

Reinier was working on implementing that same database in PT8 and

he sent me his prototype. However, as far as I know, his change of
role has brought that work to a stop. He focused on a query
interface but I focused on the display.

My role is Biblical Researcher with SIL translation resources and

one of my projects is discourse analysis of the Hebrew Bible so
you can see how the preliminary syntactic analysis is important.
Paul O’Rear will vouch for me.

Could you email me ([Email Removed]) your etcbc database (either the one used in PT7 or the prototype for PT8 or both)? Maybe we can get it into PT8 fairly easily (no promises).

I would also like to talk to you about this separately because Reinier and Paul O’Rear and I are working on formats that will be used for this kind of data in the future, which is related to both the Copenhagen Alliance and resource authoring.

FWIW, the Groves Center has just announced that their syntax trees for Hebrew will also be available under a Creative Commons license (non-commercial, no derivatives). And treebanks for Greek are also available.

I’ll send you an email.

Such basic research has usually been done in BART. Have you discussed your work with Paul O’Rear?

Absolutely. Frequently.

Paul is my supervisor and most of my work contributes to BART. Did you have something particular in mind? If so, let’s discuss it off-list.
