I appreciate the simpler Project Plan that SIL has created. I now have the file:

C:\My Paratext 8 Projects_StandardPlans\SIL Compact Plan - Rev 1.xml

I’m not positive if I put the file there myself, or it came in the most recent Paratext 8 update (I’m at 8.0.100.77).

But I can’t seem to use this project plan. I’ve created a new test project, and select Project Plan from the Project menu. I click on the Manage Plans button, and in the Reference Plan drop-down menu, all of the plans in my _StandardPlans directory show up EXCEPT the SIL Compact Plan.

What silly thing have I neglected?

The new SIL Compact Project Plan plan we sent out will only
be visible in Paratext 8 after updating to 8.0.100.81 (released
today). Before, the file would show in Paratext 9 but not 8
when the file was copied into _StandardPlans.

In my PT8-Linux last week I was able to view the SIL Compact
Project Plan, but some of the tasks read, “Unknown (or
unrecognized?) task.” After receiving a PT8 update recently, now
the plan works. (The Linux version uses different version
numbering.) I spoke with a Windows PT user over the weekend who
has automatic updates turned on, but his PT8 version was also .77.
I wonder if version .81 was not actually released until just a few
days ago?

At any rate, it looks as if you may need to update to 8.0.100.81
to use the plan.

I do like the simpler plan. Thank you, Doug!

We had to use Paratext 9 to develop the Compact plan because several key features needed had not yet been implemented in Paratext 8, but we knew that they were coming. Sorry for the confusion of releasing it a bit early. Those new features/fixes were needed to help the work flow not get stuck on stages with per chapter tasks. Matthew Lee diagnosed the flaw that could cause a plan to get stuck in such a stage. These fixes/new features should help all base plans work better. We hope many more teams will now use or develop a project plan to help them with work flow and charting their progress towards their goals.

@KimB
KimB, what is the PT8-for-Linux version that is required to see the compact project plan? Mine is at [Phone Removed], but no compact plan yet.

I did not know about the Compact project plan. However I just checked it out in my system and I see it listed right under SIL Base Plan - Rev 1.34.
So I assume there is nothing special you need to do. Maybe you need to restart Paratext…

Thanks for the input. I knew I was missing something simple… :slightly_smiling_face:

Like anon770990, I don’t see any Compact Plan, just PNG Base Plan rev 1.4, SIL Base Plan rev 1.34, TSC Plan rev 9 and UBS Trial Plan. @KimB what do we need to do to get the Compact Plan (or other versions)?

I don’t know about distribution of the plans with Paratext for Linux, but if you can find the My Paratext 8 Projects folder on your computer, and you have a friend with any somewhat recent version of Paratext 8/9 for Windows, then I would think that you could copy the file “SIL Compact Plan - Rev 1.xml” from their _StandardPlans subdirectory into your _StandardPlans subdirectory to make it available in Paratext.

JohnBrownie and others, you should keep Paratext updated in both Linux and Windows. If you do update both PT8 and PT9 the SIL Compact plan should appear. I see it on at least 5 Wasta computers that I’ve seen recently. You should not try to apply or use the plan in an old version of PT.

If you still do not see it, try jeffh’s idea of copying the file from a friend’s computer. But please do update Paratext to the latest versions before applying the plan.

Note that the Compact plan and any derivatives of it must be applied and edited using PT9, but when you have it set up for your project it can be viewed and used in PT8.

Both are up to date, and I even reinstalled both PT8 and PT9 yesterday, and still only the four plans. I don’t have PT on my Windows VM, which hasn’t even been booted for months.

I’ll check my wife’s Windows computer to see what she has. Otherwise, there’s nobody close, so I might ask someone to email me the file, since they only seem to be a few tens of kilobytes.

OK, got the plan from my wife’s computer. Now I just need to get PT9 working properly again (separate thread).
