I was following the tutorial on Lingtran.net on Paratext/Flex integration.
Link to Flex project backup

I restored the Paratext project TKE_GAa, then restored the FLEx project Takwane Thematic Dictionary … in FLEx. When I tried to lookup a word from Paratext, it said access to the lexical project was denied. I puzzled over this for a while, then realized if I shut down FLEx then restarted it, I could access the project from Paratext. I have confirmed that this happens – I deleted the FLEx project, then restored it again, and again Paratext said access was denied, until I restarted FLEx.

Someone else had trouble in that the ParaText project TKE_GaA was a daughter project. I have since uploaded a project that was a “standard translation” type. I do not know if this is related to why your ParaTExt installation was not able to communicate with the FLEx project. In making the tutorial, I never had the problem that you described.

I’m seeing the same issue happen when I create a brand new test project in Paratext, then create a brand new text project in Flex, I cannot associate my new FLex project with my Paratext project until I close Flex. Actually, in trying this, I have to have Flex closed, then I can associate my new Paratext project with the Flex project.

I had FLEx version 8.14. I have now upgraded FLEx to 8.22, and in this version, if I have a newly created project open in FLEx when I try to associate a Paratext project to it, Paratext says I have to close FLEx before associating the project.

sewhite,

I will try doing this with a newly created project. Maybe I just never did things in the order that you did, and therefore never noticed it. Have you asked the developers what they would expect to happen?

John W says in Paratext 7.6, this error message actually comes from FLEx, not Paratext. Apparently 7.6 asks FLEx to give access, 7.5 just accessed the files directly. The 7.6 approach is better for increasing the number of places in ParaTExt to connect with the FLEx database,

Ok, then. I had heard that Damien had made substantial changes to how ParaTExt connected to FLEx to make it possible to add more features in the future. This must be one of the consequences of that.
