Hi,

I would like to see the text in different scripts of the same translation, i.e. like in the source language text, allow basic form, transliteration) i would like to see the text in:

  1. non-Roman script form
  2. Roman transliteration equivalent
  3. IPA
  4. Toggle of word space and non word space of the above.

Is there any kind of conversion tool available? Can other languages other than the Biblical languages be used as source language in the source language tool for adaptation purpose?

Thanks,

Assuming that you already have appropriate converters (CC tables, TECkit maps, Python scripts, or some other encoding converter) it is easy to set up transliteration within Paratext. First make sure that SIL’s Encoding Converters software has been installed and then add the appropriate converter to that. Finally, in Paratext, set up a new project for each of the transliterated projects (presumably with the non-Roman script form as the editable SOURCE project). For the Type of Project, select the Transliteration (using Encoding Converter) option:

For Based on you will need to select the Source project
For Encoding Converter you will need to select the appropriate converter that has been set up already (or use the “Add Converter…” option at the very end of the list of available converters.

Remember that the (automatically) transliterated projects are not editable.

Hi Mark,

Thanks. I just wonder the conversion can be done in multiple direction.
For instance, if MTT done with non-Roman script editing, as the file saved(it would be even better,if it can happen in realtime). The other version will also be converted. In such case, we can allow multiple script users collaboration.

What exactly do you mean here? Are you referring to Thai or Burmese script languages that do not have word spaces normally? And you want to toggle them on and off? If so, you can use the word space character in language settings to do that,

I am working on a language with a dot to separate. I guess I can try using . in language setting to do that. Thanks for your help.

Although you can make the conversion happen in real-time*, you can’t have conversions going in TWO or more directions. So if user A is typing in script X, then user B could see that displayed in script Y, but the text in script Y can’t be edited. Does that answer your question?

It is hard enough synchronizing two versions of the same text when they appear in the same script, but imagine the confusion when multiple people are editing multiple projects in multiple scripts. Sooner or later they would be wiping out each other’s changes
