I have 8.0.100.50, but for the past few months, whenever I open it, I get a window that says :

A Paratext update has been downloaded
Do you want to install it now (You will need to grant permission to the installer)

When I say Yes, I get:

**Preparing to install**

and then:

Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?

43f1797.msi

Then there is a little window which says: Please wait…

And then Paratext opens.

It’s always the same msi, and it doesn’t seem to do anything, so I am curious as to what is going on.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

Exact same problem here. I followed your instructions, but the installer gave me the following error message: “Paratext 8 Installer ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run the Installer again. Click the Finish button to exit.”

So, I guess the reason that it keeps trying to install the same update is because it isn’t succeeding for some reason. However, the normal installation method gives no error message, so it appears to succeed even though it isn’t. Then, it tries again every time we reopen Paratext.

*Close Paratext
*Navigate to: C:\Users"NAME"\AppData\Local\Paratext80\ParatextUpdate
*Locate the update and double click to run it manually

You may need to show hidden files under your folder settings to access the AppData

Try going to: https://pt8.paratext.org/download/currentversion/ and getting the latest update file. Download and run that file.

I reported this a couple days ago, downloading the update does not change the problem. It appears to install but fails.

When Paratext runs an automatic update, a file called PtPatch.log will be created in:
C:\Users{userName}\AppData\Local\Temp

Send that file to me if you find it.
