Hi, this problem may be similar to one related to Paratext not after an update? However, I didn’t see an answer to that subject? I am the latest version of Paratext (8) and Win 10 (1511) and have been using this version of Paratext for quite a while now on this version of Windows. Just today the above message appeared and I can’t run Paratext? Tried troubleshooting compatibility; repair; restart; reinstall (online); switching SmartScreen and messages off but message still appears? Anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks!

I think I found a solution that worked for me. I uninstalled Paratext, but this still leaves the “My Paratext 8 Projects” folder. So, I backed that up to a different location, deleted the folder from the default location, and then did a fresh install from the internet. When I opened the newly installed program, it automatically recognized me as the user with the previous registration information. Then, I downloaded the resources that are available to me, sent and received the Publication project again for it to be available and manually copied and pasted the backup files I was working on into the “My Paratext 8 Projects” folder. I believe that somehow the settings files in the “My Paratext 8 Projects” folder must have gotten corrupted and were hindering the program from ! Took a day to get there, but it’s up and now! Don’t know if this information might help anyone else who might be having problems?

God bless,

PS: I took a look at the article, but I don’t think this is the same issue as you mention, because I’m McAfee Antivirus Plus which I didn’t install recently, but is up to date. Also, I tried everything including in Safe Mode and the same problem is repeated there as well! The above solution is the only thing that worked for me.

Some things I tried and what finally worked: I said that something in the Projects file might have become corrupted because I actually tried substituting several of the folders with a previous backup from before the problem and yet the program still wouldn’t start. It may even have been the exec file itself that was corrupted? But, it only worked when I uninstalled Paratext and also removed (i.e. backed up to another location) the “My Paratext 8 Projects” folder from its default location before doing a clean install from the internet. I had tried a number of different things including: Troubleshooting compatibility; repairing the installation; disabling SmartScreen and UAC; trying to start the program in Safe Mode; Scanning with Antivirus in Safe Mode; Creating another Admin account; etc. None of this worked. Also, I’m not sure that my antivirus (McAfee Antivirus Plus) has anything to do with it because when I used the above procedure it was allowed by the antivirus and is working fine. Also, I had already been using this antivirus before using Paratext so essentially nothing has changed on the system apart from a Dell Update (SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools) that doesn’t want to install? I need to work on this sometime to get it sorted. PTL that it’s working now!

What antivirus are you using?
It sounds similar to this issue reported a while ago (solution here).
