You can delete your own posts by clicking the ellipsis (…) underneath it and then clicking the rubbish bin icon.

Under my top-level post, I see icons for Link, Flag, Edit, Bookmark, and Reply. No ellipsis. No rubbish bin. However, under my reply I do get the ellipsis and then the rubbish bin. It would seem that top-level posts cannot be deleted by the user.

Deleting a top-level post deletes the entire thread of comments (the topic). If you want to delete one, you can let an admin know.
I think, generally, we don’t go deleting topics unless it’s obvious it should be deleted (i.e. it’s against the forum rules or something like that) or someone specifically asks. I’ll go ahead and delete this one.
