On the books tab of project properties window there is an “Extra Materials” button. What is it supposed to control,?
Glossaries and other back matter? Mine is grayed out. How do I get it to become active? I want to assign a translator to work on the glossary, is this button relevant to that?

So the button is there for future development? Do you know when it will be implemented?

No, it’s there because we’re using a common, re-usable control used elsewhere in Paratext and the button is used in those other locations. We should probably hide the button on this dialog.

There are no (current) future plans to add the Extra Material books to the project plan because most tasks in a plan don’t apply to those books and reporting progress on them isn’t needed.

SIL base plan, and the Seed Company plans do have tasks involving the glossary

glossaries are fun, but…

I think there are plenty of Scripture-related materials that people might want to put in the Extra Material books, and they might be developed via many of the stages/tasks in the project plan. So, we can’t just assume that the project plan is irrelevant to the Extra Material books. The project plan isn’t only for reporting to administrators.

Currently that button doesn’t do anything. It is not possible to add extra
material books to the books that are part of the project plan (so there is
now way to handle those with the plan). The editing rights for those books
must be given under Users, Roles and Permissions.

We have quite a lot of materials in XXA, XXB and XXC apart from the standard FRT, GLO and TDX. But these are not organized into chapters and verses, so the Paratext Project Plan and Assignments would have difficulties handling them. It is my understanding that the Project Plan is designed to handle the actual Scripture translation and not all the other activities that usually are part of a translation project. In short, I see the Paratext Project Plan as a subset of the overall Project Plan. The Paratext Progress charts and the Big Picture Chart can therefore only handle this subset of the overall project progress.
