User jooel niemenen asks:
If I export John 1-3, it works fine, but selecting fourth chapter as well 1-4, pdf export fails. so it does if I select chapter 4 alone.

error comes up about cmsy10 and some ttf galil stuff. The error occurs on 9.5 as well as 9.6 beta.

What did you expect to happen?

Do these steps always cause the problem to happen?f

Issue is not chapter specific. I am getting the same exact error in chapter 5.

Just to verify, can you confirm that you have no errors when you use Run Basic Checks on the chapters in question?

If you use different PTX settings do you get the same errors?
Having used LaTeX way back in the 1980s, cmmi10 looks suspiciously like the default font, Computer Modern medium italic 10 point.
I've ran through the "run basic checks"
basically every single verse in my project has an issue. :)
going through them now.

And I think John is unto something. What I think is different with my chapters is that in 4th chapter (which gets this error) I started using italics for source language in footnotes.
Unknown markers. Since I had only looked at the formatted text, I never spotted the few spots that had errenous markers \t (instead of \it) and some typos like \(.

Fixing the unknown markers made the printing work.
Jooel,

I encourage users to set the text in Standard view. That way you get to see the formatting, but can also see the markers and if there are errors (these show up as red markers).
Amazing. Thanks Phil. That helps a lot!
