Hi forum, I created a resource text from one of my translation projects unding the menu item (Tools-Advanced-Create Resource Text).
For some stupid reason I then deleted the original project after having created a resource from it. But now I need to access the SFM files in that resource to make some changes. However, I am unable to open my own resource. Every time I try to open or copy one of the SFM files I get a dialog box asking me for a password.
I never assigned a password when I created the resource text, so now I am stuck. Somehow PT adds password protection to all the SFM files when they get turned into resources, but it doesn’t tell you what that pw is.
Does anybody know how I can find that particular password?

If you had S/R the project before, you can use S/R to get the project back.

Otherwise, if you could attach the file or put the file on Google Drive, Dropbox, etc., I can create a zip file of the resource without the password protection for you. For licencing and security reasons, we can not just give you the password.

If you don’t want anyone else getting the unprotected resource, please send me a PM with the file.

unfortunately I don’t have the project on the servers, so S/R won’t work and I’ll gladly take you up on that offer and send you a PM with the file. I assume by PM you mean private email? My other question, however, is why would Paratext put a password on a resource that I created myself from my own private project? There is no PW on the files as long as they are still a normal project, so why put one on when I turn it into a private resource?

The piece of coding used to create the resource was originally only used for creating the resources distributed with ParaTExt. By request of users who want to share their projects with others not involved, they opened up the tool to be used by anyone. By definition, the resources are “encrypted” due to licencing agreement restrictions. The password is automatically put on the resource when the tool is used as it can’t distinguish whether it is going to be a resource distributed with the ParaTExt software, or a resource distributed privately.
