In Paratext 8.0 (and later), there are two types of notes that can be inserted for a Biblical Term:

  • A Biblical Term rendering discussion note (referred to below as "rendering discussion note")
  • A Biblical Term rendering description (referred to below as "rendering description")

A Biblical Term can only have one of each kind of note.

Neither type of note can be inserted while editing the text of the project.

To insert a rendering discussion note:

  1. Select a Biblical Term in either the Biblical Terms tool or the Biblical Terms Renderings window.
  2. Do any of the following:
    • Double-click the hollow icon in either the Biblical Terms tool or the Biblical Terms Renderings window.
    • From the Insert menu in the Biblical Terms tool, select Rendering Discussion Note.
    • When the Biblical Terms Renderings window is the active window, select Rendering Discussion Note from the Insert menu of the main Paratext window.
  3. Enter your note in the white box.
  4. Click OK when you are finished.

A grey icon with a tick mark indicates that the discussion has been marked as resolved. If you double-click it, insert a comment, and click OK, you reactivate the rendering discussion note and your comment gets appended.

A color-filled icon (or a gray icon with a green tick mark) at the far left of the Biblical Terms tool or the Biblical Terms Renderings window indicates the presence of a rendering discussion note.

The verse reference for the rendering discussion note will be the first occurrence of the term according to the Biblical Terms filter settings at the time the note was inserted.

To insert a rendering description:

  1. Do either of the following:
    • Double-click a term in either the Biblical Terms tool or the Biblical Terms Renderings window.
    • In the Biblical Terms tool, select a term, and then select Edit Renderings from the Edit menu.
  2. Enter your rendering description in the Notes area.
  3. Click OK when you are finished.

When a term containing a rendering description is selected, the rendering description appears in the middle pane of the Biblical Terms tool.
