Verse references in Biblical Terms List

Question

In one project I’m working with, a lot of Biblical Terms have been added to the List but with only one (or sometimes several but not all) of the relevant verses associated with it. Is there a way to add the missing verses retrospectively? For example, ἀββά has Mrk. 14:36 but not Rom. 8:15 nor Gal. 4:6. Any way to add these or does the term have to be deleted and recreated with all the verses associated?

I see what has happened now. You have filtered for “Synop”, presumably the synoptic gospels, so it only shows the occurrences in those books (and not Romans or Galatians). If you turn off that filter you should see the others. Or if you want to keep your filter active but still see other uses of a particular term, you can click on the term and look for the blue text at the bottom that says “Also show reference in other books in this project”.

Thank you. Yes, I realised that myself about half an hour ago!

But it still begs the original question because there are others - mostly generated by someone from Greek source text, I think - which still have the problem. I’m also wondering if it is possible to combine several terms (chiefly names which occur multiple times because they refer to different people but from a translation perspective (at least for this team) will all be spelt the same so it would be more convenient to have as one entry).

Do you know if these Biblical Terms were added manually or if they were added from one of the other Keyterm list (i.e. Major Biblical Terms)?

Hard to tell but it seems like a mix. Some are clearly from SIL Semantic Domains :

But others perhaps from a different list or from searches in the Greek text.

Actually, I think at one point the whole of Major Biblical Terms was copied over! It’s quite a hotch-potch.

Ah, I just found the “Modify a Biblical Term” under the Biblical Terms Tool menu. Simple!!! But it would be helpful if this were referenced somewhere in the PT Help files.

In order to “edit” a biblical term a couple of things have to be true.

• You must have permission to work on terms (User permissions)
• The active list must be the project list (you cannot edit terms in Major Biblical Terms or All terms)

When you click on a term you can go to the menu of Biblical terms and select “Edit biblical term…” from the menu. You should then see something like this and you can edit the gloss, references and under Advanced you can make other changes.

Thank you @anon848905. I had guessed that this option might only exist for the project terms list. And where I work, I am often administrator. Once I had it all ready, it was a matter or finding it in the menu under “edit”, not under “tools”, that was all.

We are having a few terms where the Greek is so vast in meaning, and those also tend to be very frequent terms, and therefore our renderings-lists get badly cluttered. Now we could experiment in splitting those cases according to meaning. For example ἀπόλλυμι with the main meaning destroy/kill might be separated from lose/get-rid-off.
