I just learned about a free way to upgrade my old laptop from windows 7 to windows 10.

Is there any way to run a program that would automatically check the compatibility of all my programs to make sure they all work with Windows 10?

Are there any risks or potential problems to upgrading from Windows 7 to 10?

I run paratext, Field Works lexical Explorer, MS Office, Donor Manager, and many other programs.

Thanks

Going forward, Paratext along with a number of other apps, will require 64-bit Windows. The impact for you will depend on the laptop hardware, your Win7 system (Is it 64-bit?) and specific apps.

Sounds like a question for Google.

Microsoft has helpful steps for finding out whether your current Windows installation is 32-bit or 64-bit. On the same page are instructions for finding out whether your computer processor (cpu) can run a 64-bit system.
32-bit and 64-bit Windows: Frequently asked questions (microsoft.com)

The hard news is that “Upgrading from the 32-bit version to the 64-bit version of Windows requires that you reformat your hard disk, install the 64-bit version of Windows, and then reinstall everything else that you had on your device.”

Sorry for the pain and expense, but upgrading really is worth a lot! The upgrades will help keep your data and your whole team much safer. Hope you are finding a good path forward.
