I had a case today of a Paratext 9 project where the consultant doing the checking couldn’t open the Interlinearizer because there was an associated lexical project, but he didn’t have FLEx or that project on his machine. Is that expected behavior? Should the Interlinearizer be able to work even if it can’t find the associated FLEx project?

Anyway, the translators don’t even have a FLEx project (they think it was maybe from a test that they did a few years ago), so I wanted to get rid of that association. I couldn’t do it on the translators’ computers - the Choose button on the Associated Lexical Project field was greyed out. But I had them make me a Consultant on the project, so I could temporarily become Admin, and when I went to the Associations tab, Choose was activated, so I could click it and choose None, to remove the lexical project. Then the Interlinear worked as expected.

So was the Choose button activated on my machine because I have FLEx installed, or for some other reason? I would think that Admins should be able to click the Choose button even if they don’t have FLEx installed, at least for the possibility of removing that association.

I’ve also seen an issue where I cannot click OK in the Project Properties window because the Associated FLEx project could not be found (for instance, when the user has the FLEx project on their computer, and I am working on the project on my computer, without that FLEx project).

@jeffh, did you submit a bug report? I can submit the issue I described above and maybe the developers can group that work together. :wink:

I don’t think I submitted a bug report… but I have a lot of posts I’ve been dealing with, so I’m not sure. Why don’t you submit your issue, and mentioned mine as well, and that will be sure to group them together!

@jeffh

Done. I included you as my “supporter” so you would also get an email. :grinning:

@jeffh, I realized that it would actually be best for you to submit this from one of the machines having the issue, so the relevant problem report could be included. The issue was submitted as PTXS-29075 (written up using your original above), so you could reference that in your report.

Thanks,

I don’t have FLEx installed and am unable to click on the Choose button and unlink a project. What I have done in the past is to edit the Paratext project settings file in Windows Explorer My Paratext 8 Project/project. Save a backup and edit very carefully.

For example: Change

<AssociatedLexicalProject>FieldWorks:Air8</AssociatedLexicalProject>
  <ParallelPassagesBooks>

to
<AssociatedLexicalProject></AssociatedLexicalProject>
or
<AssociatedLexicalProject />

Do we really want users doing this? I propose a simple change to Paratext so that an Administrator can click that Choose button regardless of whether FLEx is installed or not (or whatever the criteria is that deactivates that button), and if there is no FLEx installed, the only option they can choose is to remove the lexical project.

I agree that we don’t want users doing this. I suggested it as a rescue a supporter might use now. Yes, indeed, it should be fixed so that an Admin can choose and unchoose as necessary.

Check the version numbers you are using for both Paratext and FLEx. I believe that PT8 does not work with FLEx 9.xx, and also that if you have two versions of FLEx installed on your computer (FLEx 8 and FLEx 9) Paratext 8 (as well as 9) has trouble opening a FLEx 8 project.

So PT8 will associate with FLEx 8, and PT9 will associate with FLEx 8 or 9, but if you work with multiple language projects and thus have both FLEx 8 and FLEx 9 installed on your computer, PT will always look for an associated FLEx project in the location where FLEx 9 projects are installed.

This last problem has been discussed, and upgrading to the latest (compatible) versions of both PT and FLEx might help somewhat. However, I think that a project that has been upgraded to FLEx 9 will not work with Paratext 8.

Please correct me if I’ve stated something in error here!

Just to clarify… The real problem here is that FLEx isn’t installed at all on the Paratext administrators machine (so it’s not an issue of version compatibility), and there just needs to be the possibility in Paratext to REMOVE a lexical project from the Paratext project, even if FLEx isn’t installed.
