I just installed PT8 alongside PT9 to see if the older version has performance gains over against the new version. The difference for me is significant–enough that I’m willing to continue using PT8 for the time being.

One thing I’ve come up against is that autocorrect.txt isn’t working in PT8… Do PT8 and PT9 share the same file? They seem to share other things in the project folder, but I’m wondering if autocorrect.txt is different. I’m using the Linux version, in case that matters.

Thanks for any help, Paul

I don’t know if Linux makes a difference for this. The intention is for it to work in both. I just tested it in Paratext 8 and 9 on Windows and the autocorrect.txt did work fine in both.

Does your autocorrect.txt file work in PT9? Where is it located in the My Paratext Project folder structure?

The file does work in PT9. It is located in /home/username/Paratext8Projects/project.name, right after all the nn.book.sfm files.

Yikes! I recently installed the newest PT8 in Wasta 20.04, and most things seem to be working. But autocorrect.txt is not working there for me either. This is a bug, because I have been using the same autocorrect.txt file for years, in both PT8 and PT9 in Wasta 18.04 and prior versions. Please report this in PT8 using Help > Report a problem.

I was able to verify that Paul’s autocorrect file is working fine in Windows and would agree with KimB that this is a bug.

Hurray!!! There is an update to PT8 for Wasta/Ubuntu 20.04 today. After installing it my autocorrect is working again!

Thanks Tom and PT team!

Good news, KimB! How did you find the update…? I tried Help > Check for updates (“Automatically update Paratext” is checked), which told me to use Update Manager. Wasta’s “Software Updater” didn’t find anything, nor did Synaptic Package Manager. I’ve got 1.58 installed, but would love the update. Advice welcome.
[later…] I tried enabling “http://packages.sil.org/ubuntu focal-experimental main” in “Software & Update” and that, indeed, found an update for PT8 (1.58 → 1.60). Autocorrect now works! :+1: Big THANKS to the developers!
[after a bit more testing…] Keyboard shortcuts that weren’t working before are also working now. I’m looking forward to work on Monday!
