As far as I can see anyone with the role of Consultant/Reviewer/Archivist/Typesetter is automatically given permission to control Biblical Terms and edit Renderings. Is there any reason for that? If so, I would like to be enlightened. It seems to me that the default option should be to not give that permission to this role, but actively give it if needed.

Hello, Iver+Larsen.

I think that a Consultant profile has these permits because it is part of their job to identify terms or phrases that they think the translation team should observe for their specific translation.

Also, these two permissions do not modify the text (as opposed to spelling or permissions in books / chapters). So the permission for Biblical Term and Renderings do not interfere directly in the biblical text.
If a user is required to only make notes, Biblical Terms and Rendering permissions can be removed. I think there are fewer cases where you need to remove the permissions, so it’s not the default option.
(sorry for the bad english).

It is not very clear what these permissions do. The Help file has a brief and incomplete note:

Terms Giving a user permission for the Terms task allows that user to add terms to or remove terms from the Project Biblical Terms list.
Renderings Giving a user permission for the Renderings task allows that user to approve or deny renderings of Biblical Terms. Users can only resolve Biblical Term rendering discussion notes if they have been given permission for the Renderings task.

Should these rights automatically be given to a consultant? I would think these rights belong to the translator(s) with guidance from a consultant. I expect they would work together on this task. If a consultant needs to develop or manipulate the Project Biblical Terms list without input from the translators, he can be given that permission. If a consultant has made a discussion note, he should have the right to resolve it. I believe such a discussion note can be made without these two permissions, so I do not know why it needs permission to resolve the note.

The Renderings permission allows the consultant to edit the renderings for this language in addition to approving or denying the rendering used in a particular verse. I think these rights should be restricted to a translator or actively given to some consultants in some projects.

I do not think that a consultant would misuse these rights. I am only wondering why these rights are given as a default option. It complicates the issue that a consultant role is combined with the role of a reviewer/archivist/typesetter.
