Question

New PT8 install, on Win7SP1x64

PT8 runs fine and S/R is fine,

Tried to run patch #50 got this message.

“There is a problem with this windows installer package,. A DLL is required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact…”

I haven’t seen this before, so not sure which DLL is being referred to.

If you were running the update through Paratext, there should be a PTpatch.log file in the %TEMP% folder for the user. That may have more information.

By from within Paratext I assume you mean auto-updates.

I was executing the Update manually from File Explorer. I found one PT log file (forget the name) but it had no further information.

I can go back and try to let it auto update and check that log.

The line with the error is:

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path
‘C:\Users\David\AppData\Local\Temp\MSI1E87.tmp-’ is denied.

I think this means that the installer is extracting a file to the Temp
folder and then trying to run it - this is done because of a custom action
in the installer. Access is probably being denied by the anti-virus
program, maybe there would be something in the logs about this.

Depending what you find in the logs, you could try disabling the anti-virus
program during the installation.

I uninstalled AVG Free and rebooted. Manual update to 50 and auto update to 50 both failed, same as before I will post log file.

I am having the same problem on another laptop (partner office), but I do not see a PTpatch.log file in the %TEMP% folder for the user. I am running the 63 patch file manually.

No antivirus was installed when I first saw the error.

The partner office is some distance butI may be able to remotely access laptop at times.
