When I look at the list of projects which I have registered for approved FOBAI organizations, most appear to be registered as “Publisher Edition”. Something I do not remember specifying but I am happy about. But a few are showing up as “Translator Edition” and I cannot see a way to change them to be “Publisher Edition”. This is a problem. I cannot see a difference in registration between the Translator and Publisher Edition projects and know of no impediments like duplicate or rival projects.

This, of course means that I am unable to typeset the Translator Edition projects.
So, two questions, how do I ensure when registering a project that it is a Publisher Edition and how do I change a project from Translator to Publisher?

Secondarily, I wish to test the beta Publishing Assistant on a test project before I use it on a real project and I am unable to do so. This is a show-stopper even for when PA is out of beta. I often want to try new ways of typesetting but do not wish to interfere with a real project. For example, changing the formatting, custom.sty or frtbak.sty for my more complex jobs. I really need a way to do this.

Hi Shegnada,

Can you send me, offlist, the names of your projects which only have
Translator Edition status? I think the Managing Organization field is
critical to receive Publisher Edition status.

It is possible to create test projects in Paratext 8. I usually create
them with a Short Name prefixed with “zzz” as a reminder to myself and
support people that they are test projects. You have to register the
project in order to receive Publisher Edition status. When you register
the project: (1) make sure that the Managing Organization is something
in SIL so that you receive Publisher Edition status and (2) make sure
that Project Visibility is “Test or Training” so that the project
doesn’t trigger the approval process and isn’t included in statistics.
This should be the default if you used the “zzz” prefix. After the
project is created and registered you can import the text from a real
project.

As for “Standard” visibility projects, they should automatically be upgraded to Publisher Edition after they have gone through the review procedures, which takes up to two months. SIL and UBS projects are automatically upgraded to Publisher Edition.

Shegnada, I see that all your PT8-registered Translator Edition projects that don’t already have Publisher Edition will automatically receive it in four weeks assuming no objections have been filed with the Board of Governors in that time. If the managing organisations, language or visibility of the project is changed, it will take longer because the changes will also go through review.
