Is it possible to use a super-scripted verse number in a footnote such as below?

Some manuscripts add: and we would have judged him according to our law. 7But the chief captain Lysias came and with great violence took him out of our hands, 8commanding his accusers to come before you.

Yes: use the marker \fv ... \fv*. If this marker occurs within another character marker like \ft (which is likely), it should be marked as nested, that is, with a + directly after the dash:

\+fv 7\+fv*
