Is it possible to use a ^{super-scripted} verse number in a footnote such as below?

Some manuscripts add: and we would have judged him according to our law. ⁷But the chief captain Lysias came and with great violence took him out of our hands, ⁸commanding his accusers to come before you.

Yes: use the marker \fv ... \fv*. If this marker occurs within another character marker like \ft (which is likely), it should be marked as nested, that is, with a + directly after the dash:

\+fv 7\+fv*
