I have an external resource with notes about different Hebrew words, with notes and renderings in the vernacular language we’re working with. The Hebrew words are organized by Strong’s Numbers (and in most cases the actual Hebrew word doesn’t occur in the database).

Is there a way in PT to see the Strong’s Numbers for Hebrew, so that I can quickly find the Hebrew term that lines up? Ideally this would be in the Biblical Terms area, though it might be helpful even if were accessible elsewhere.

My goal is to move to data from the external database into PT, but if possible I’d like to do that without looking up each Strong’s number externally, find the corresponding Hebrew word, and then search the Bib Term list for that word.

The WEB (World English Bible) is an English translation available in Paratext in which each word has a reference to the Strong’s Number it refers to. I’m not sure if that is helpful to you. I didn’t find any other Strong’s Numbers resources in Paratext.

This is an easier task in Logos where you can view the Strong’s Numbers via inline interlinear and jump to their entry with a click. https://support.logos.com/hc/en-us/articles/360028307111-Using-Strong-s-Numbers.

Thank you. I think the idea to use Logos was probably just what I was looking for (I just didn’t know it). This is because searching in Logos will scroll me exactly to where I need to be in PT.

I haven’t tried scrolling PT and Logos together for years. I was happily impressed by how much easier it is now–no more hacking the Registry. Good job developers!

PTX print can printout a glossary that has Strong numbers if those vernacular words are in the Biblical terms tool. So, this tells me that the Strong’s numbers are accessible some how. Maybe a PTX print specialist will see your question and fill us all in on how to do this.

I actually looked at that. I’m pretty sure they’re using an external tool that they’ve added to ptxprint, not something inside of PT.

The Strong numbers are available in the xml file that defines the Major Biblical Terms. You can find this file in the Paratext installation directory under /Terms/Lists/BiblicalTerms.xml.
PTX print might get it from there.

That’s extremely interesting, and makes me go back to wondering if the information is available somewhere inside of PT.

The information is in the BiblicalTerms.xml file, but Paratext doesn’t load the Strong information from the file at all, so there is no way that Paratext does anything with it yet. Sorry.
