One of our translators spend several weeks working on preparing an interlinear as an aid for a workshop with translation consultants later this year. He finished what he needed to do with the interlinearizer tool in Paratext 8, but his work was still not showing up for the consultants. I eventually realized one problem - he’d been doing send/receive on the wrong project. But once this was corrected, and we did send/receive correctly, instead of sending his work to us, it sent the project administrator’s work to him - but since the project admin’s version of the interlinear was incomplete, it effectively erased about 30 chapters of interlinear work. Maybe Paratext thought that the admin’s version was newer and therefore the right one? I’m not sure of the reason. But we actually wanted the translator’s version, not the admin’s version. I couldn’t find a way to ‘restore the text’ and it didn’t flag any conflicts or anything, so the work will basically have to be re-done.

How can we avoid this problem in future? Will Paratext continue to take whichever version of the interlinearizer it thinks is newest, even if it’s less complete, thus erasing portions of the work that has been done? Or is there some way to prevent this?

Please send in a problem report (Help > Give feedback) so we can look into this. We can likely also fix the lost data.

The interlinear files should merge at the verse level so it shouldn’t have been that the administrator’s data overwrote the translator’s data. If you send in a problem report we can hopefully figure out what happened.

For some reason, the data came back and the consultant received the interlinear normally. I’m not sure what we did that made it work right, but I hope that doesn’t happen again! If it does, I’ll contact Paratext support.
