Hi there,

I was just wondering about some details of Paratext’s behavior as it relates to saving, autosaving, and sending/receiving. I tried looking for these answers on this site and in the Paratext help, but I couldn’t find anything.

  1. If I edit a verse and hit send/receive without saving, will I lose data?
  2. If I edit a verse and hit the X, and Paratext closes normally, will I lose data?

Based on some quick testing, it looks like PT is autosaving before the SR and the close, but I wanted to ask to be sure.

Thanks so much!

  1. No, you will not lose data. Paratext does do a save before doing a S/R.
  2. No, you will not lose data. Paratext will save before closing.

Note that if you have autosave (Paratext > Paratext settings > Autosave) turned off, you should be asked to save during those times and it should be more obvious that a save does indeed happen.

Also note that this applies to all windows, not just the Scripture text (e.g. Notes List window). However, most windows save instantly and don’t need to do another save at those specific times (e.g. Biblical Terms, Wordlist).

Thank you so much for this information.

However, most windows save instantly and don’t need to do another save at those specific times (e.g. Biblical Terms, Wordlist).

I didn’t realize that notes, Biblical terms, and wordlists get saved instantly! That’s good to hear.

Thanks again,
